Jots and Tittles and the Nature of Things

A jot or a tittle
Or the nature of things
Even the subtle lie
The Fly Swatter will bring

It’s funny how you always get at least partially what you are looking for. The study of Quantum Physics has provided a lot of people with the somewhat mistaken impression that we make our own reality. This is of course, in the absolute, a false premise.

Yet there is just enough truth to this supposition that an entire catalogue of industries under the heading of Cultus Cheerleadicus is based on it. We clearly do participate in some of what makes up our reality, and so much so that folks will judge their relative spiritual position on any given day by whether or not a car pulled out just in time for them to get a hard to get parking space. And I am not exempt.

Last evening, I began a futile and heated discussion with a friend of mine over the issue of gay marriage. I will get into this in a moment. You cannot help but see the photograph above. Well, the next day I went to my bank and while I was waiting to cross the street. I looked up and saw the bumper sticker on the back of a traffic light. This is exactly what my friend was convinced was underneath my opposition to gay marriage. Wow, what a mess to unravel on this one! And forgive me the long-windedness.

First off, before I try to give my opinion, I must create a personal frame of reference from which my opinion may have value. The easiest thing to do on the subject of gay marriage if one is opposed, is to define the extreme limits and start with the fundamentalist approach, which is Leviticus 18:22:

“Do not practice homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman. It is a detestable sin. Lev 18:22 NLT

“Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination”. KJV

If you belong to a certain church in Kansas you walk about jeopardizing your own soul by carrying signs that say “God Hates Fags!”

This being said, however, Jesus Christ had this to say about the Mosaic Law:

“I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.” Luke 16:17 NLT

“For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” KJV

I believe in the Book and what is said, yet I am no man’s judge. I’m in the glass house of human existence like most everyone I know except for a few politicians and media types who are sure they sweat green tea. I think we all get to decide the judgments that will render against us just by living our lives. We may not get what we thought we wanted but our lives will determine the character of any final judgments. So let’s leave religion out of the discussion for now even though in the end it will most likely dominate all of our aspirations and perhaps our reservations.

Recently I demonstrated my bigotry by claiming in another blog that after being offended by the vulgar attacks from a certain gay beauty-contest judge, that I would respond in kind and no longer refer to the issue as one of gay marriage. I decided I would call it sodomite marriage instead. On this I will be judged.

So much for jots and tittles. And the nature of things?

Even though I can be characterized as a bigot for my predisposition against what I see as the illogical and foolish prospects of gay marriage, those who support it are most certainly predisposed also, and bigoted against those who don’t agree with them. They stand confident and quite certain that they are right because of their offended sense justice and fairness. In their minds this puts them on higher moral ground than those referencing some old book. But I maintain that their sense of fairness and justice is somewhat misplaced. There still is the nature of things to recognize.

But for starters, fairness is a pretense that has been propagandized and glamorized in our pop culture. Clear thinking is absent here. Fairness and Justice are not exactly the same thing and the words should not be substituted for each other. The word fair has over time been equated with justice but its first meaning is pleasing to the sight. In this original sense it is used correctly by progressives since what they are most concerned with is “what looks good.” It makes them feel better.

This is not necessarily the same thing as justice which is meted out by a woman who is blindfolded, holding a balance scale in one hand and a sword in the other. Theoretically she sees nothing of how it “looks.” Unless you are Sotomayor, then you take the blindfold off and celebrate with your girlfriends and a tequila.

But this is a philosophical sideshow that is an article in itself. Suffice it to say that justice is the law applied evenly to all without prejudice. So for instance, in a Moslem country justice is a thief getting his hand cut off whether he came from a wealthy family or a poor one. Justice is blind; it is simply the law applied.

So back to gay marriage. The concept is an oxymoron in spite of some dictionary folks making a quick and heated attempt to change this. Marriage is: the formal union of a man and a woman, typically recognized by law, by which they become husband and wife.

To claim that gays not being allowed to marry is not fair, is true. It is not fair. There is very little in this world that is. Marriage is a formal union between a man and a woman in which the society or the state, if you will has a vested interest. No more kids, no more society unless you import them. Arguments about the relative merits of importation versus homegrown kids is another masterpiece of progressive pap. Nothing is better than growing your own. It generates enough cultural integrity to keep the understanding and pursuit of freedom going. And this is especially so in our case here in America. Things such as this are just naturally so whether we like it or not.

To digress for a moment, there are other movements in our culture that are contributing to the muddling of our own clarity. Look at the recent cover of Newsweek magazine where an entire issue is dedicated to drawing parallels between the White House gang and the Trek characters. What has this to do with the subject we are discussing? Well you guessed it. I’m gonna tell you.

There is a foolish tendency in today’s popularized perspective that we can make things in our own image and that the only thing holding us back is not believing that there are alien civilizations, where up is down, in is out, and same sex creatures not only marry, but they procreate. It’s like thinking that if you are in terrible debt you can actually do more than buy time by borrowing more. This mistake is against the nature of things.

This is the realm of Dawkins and other theoretical physicists and nitwits and academics and government trolls who want so much to be “progressive” that they deny any natural order. In short they practice an insidious form of pseudo-science designed to sell books, get them testimonials and mostly make them cash. The problem is that they deny reality and lead others away from common sense. This may be fun. But it is the stuff of too much weed and acid in the sixties. And just so you know, Star Trek, the original, was and still is one of my favorite TV shows. But there is an existential threat to confusing reality with dreaming. It is the nature of things.

No society or civilization has ever survived the normalization or worse the popularization of homosexuality. And dreaming of boldly going where no man has gone before is really boldly going where no man should want to go. It will lead to societal corruption and decay. We can dream of creatures with two heads having sex with other really cool beings who have six sets of eyeballs on their forearms all we want, it’s just not going to happen except in some insane scientist’s laboratory or a writer’s tortured mind. It is the nature of things.

In most countries no matter how barbaric it seems to us in the West, the laws of the land call for homosexuals to be executed. Here they are equal citizens and can pursue happiness like everyone and this is a gift of freedom from the Living God who inspired men to create such a society as ours; to judge not others, and look to the beam in their own eye first, and live and let live.

Homosexuals should and do have all the freedom and rights that heterosexuals have. They should also leave marriage alone. For to demand marriage will sow the seeds of their own destruction. Natural laws will override their fantasies and in time they will be invited to their own head-chopping party. It is the nature of things.

I know the first tendency of propagandized young people and their professors who are mostly old Burnt Out Baby Boomers is to blame Christianity and the Bible for a prejudice they see as unfair. But most of this is just lawyers doing what they do best which is to divide and rule, or better, argue and cash checks. And if you think legalizing gay marriage won’t lead to a bonanza for the Liars (lawyers) you have been Pap Smeared. The Pandora’s box is already popping. And children will be forced by law to be exposed to the lifestyle. This is the true agenda of gay marriage. It is to begin the indoctrination of the young against any prejudice sowed by their evil parents and their damn Bibles. It can be no other way under the equal protection clause! The tyranny of a minority will ensue against those who think otherwise.

But even if you think that this is a good idea, how about this, today:

Next frontier? Polygamists demand multi-sex marriage
Activists: New Hampshire plan embeds bigotry into state law

Oh, lawyers will make money and buy Mercedes Benz’s and vacation homes, and the courts will get real busy, and the Bill O’Reilly will have a new fence upon which to perch and sell doormats and coffee mugs. The government run media will distract everyone with stupid and rigged polls. They will steal more money out of your wallet while you are arguing whether or not a man in Australia should be allowed to marry his kangaroo. It will simply be Ignorance Bowl XCVI, only on ABC or NBC or… You get the picture?

Homosexuality has been around throughout recorded history. You’ll be hard pressed, however, to find a case of an ancient homosexual or any historical homosexual pining over the unfairness of his life and society because Rome wouldn’t let him marry his boyfriend. All this is really just an attempt to force those who believe in the Bible to capitulate, not because it is justice, but because it will make activist homosexuals feel better. They think it is only fair. And in the sense of the word fairness being what looks good, they are right.

The problem for all of us is that this cannot but lead to a metaphysical imbalance or injustice, if you will. The overriding principles of equilibrium will take over. I call it the Cosmic Fly Swatter. When man pushes the limits of natural design he is swatted down. This happens in all dimensions and sectors including man-made ones. Like maybe…let’s see…hmmm…economics?

I have my own perspective on what appears to be God’s “unfairness” on this issue. And I offer it here not because it is provable, or the “Truth” or even reality. I offer it here so that anyone can see that it is reasoning and not blind foolish adherence to ancient and antiquated mythology that motivates me to take the position that I have taken.

As hard as it may be to comprehend, I see the Living God as many things, and above all, I see Him as Love. Not being perfect myself, I cannot but see a lot of mystery when I consider perfection. But over time, living my life and reading the Bible, and screwing up endlessly, it has become clear to me that what appears to be the unmerciful commands and laws of God are simply and truly the exact opposite. The laws governing reality are God’s love demonstrated to His creatures. His display of Wisdom at the present moment simply doesn’t fit the canvas upon which we are drawing our art projects. For most, the greatest art project is how he or she sees reality. For those who believe, the greatest is picturing God, Himself.

The law of Leviticus in this matter is not designed to give feelings of superiority or feelings of inferiority to any. It is a design parameter by which the continuance of the order required to sustain life is maintained. And notwithstanding Darwinian delusions it cannot be that hard for society to follow.

We live in a universe of contrarities. We yin and yang, back and forth, in and out, and up and down. The metaphors and tales of the Bible will always be popular because they ring true to that part of the human that desires truth. Most folks, in the West at least, see life as a big banquet table where we feast on large plates of Good with an occasional side dish of Evil. It is the nature of things since we stopped gardening.

Notwithstanding any of the jots and tittles, marriage, no matter what happens, no matter what any state does, will always be only between a man and a woman. It may not be fair. But it is its very nature and therefore cosmically just.
